Theater of the Stars holds auditions for both union and non-union performers in two locations: Atlanta and New York City. All performers over the age of 18 in TOTS productions are compensated. Performers under the age of 18 may be compensated depending on the role they are chosen for.

ATLANTA AUDITIONS

Adults

The Atlanta auditions are usually an Open Call for talented singers, actors and dancers held in the Spring (for which all musicals that are produced by TOTS in that season are taken into consideration - with few exceptions). This open call is available to Actors' Equity Members by appointment and to non-AEA Members on a first-come/first-serve basis. The non-Equity members are seen after the Actors' Equity Members. Call backs usually take place the same day.

All ADULT Actors Auditioning MUST:

1. Be 18 years of age or older

2. Have 2 copies of an 8x10 headshot (color or black-and-white accepted) and resume

3. Have 2 songs prepared (one upbeat and one ballad). Please bring sheet music in your appropriate key. Should have at least 16 bars prepared.

  • A pianist will be provided at the audition.
  • TOTS does NOT accept taped accompaniment.
  • TOTS does NOT accept a cappella singing at the audition.

Youth

The Atlanta auditions for youth also take place in the Spring. This call is usually open to non-AEA Members (please note that if TOTS is looking for AEA Members that information will be listed in the audition notice). The Youth auditions are usually held for an unpaid youth ensemble that is an added addition to an upcoming TOTS produced production. Participation in the youth ensemble gives young artists an unparalleled opportunity to perform on a professional stage and to receive training from our Children's Musical Director and high level professionals in the arts community. Our Producer, Chris Manos, has traditionally added local youth ensembles to our produced productions. It is a way of giving back to the community while exposing youth performers to the magic of professional musical theater.

FutureStars Club

By joining the FutureStars Club, youth performers are automatically notified, via e-mail, when we are having a youth audition or an event geared toward youth performers. You can become a member by filling out the form below and submitting it. Once you have joined the FutureStars Club, please do not call or e-mail to inquire when the next audition is scheduled; when it is, the notices will go out and you will be one of the first performers notified. Subscribers to the FutureStars Club will automatically receive notices without having to keep checking this website.

All YOUTH Actors Auditioning MUST:

1. Be 15 years of age or younger (unless otherwise noted in the audition notice)

2. Have 2 copies of an 8x10 headshot (color or black-and-white accepted and it can be the same photo) and resume

3. Regarding songs for the audition and dancing, unless otherwise noted:

  • Accompaniment will be provided at the audition.
  • TOTS will choose the song(s) that the youth performers are asked to sing.
  • TOTS will teach the youth performers the dance requirement at the audition.
  • Call Backs are usually the same day unless otherwise noted.

NEW YORK AUDITIONS

Auditions in New York City are advertised through the performer's union (Actors' Equity) hotlines in each locale.

Please note that TOTS regrets that in general we do not have the staff time to review audition submissions sent on video or DVD except for rare occasions. All auditions must be seen live and in person, within the context of a regular casting call for best comparison of talent and suitability. Please call and speak to Marguerite Daniel Mancini prior to e-mailing a video submission.

REHEARSAL INFORMATION FOR ADULTS

TOTS rehearsals are usually from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at least seven days a week until tech starts (when the hours are inconstant and are usually longer). The average rehearsal and tech time combined is roughly two weeks. Rehearsals usually take place in New York City (or in rare cases in Atlanta) and tech happens in different locations depending on the production. If the show is touring there will be a performance week in Atlanta and performances in other cities which means that travel outside of Atlanta is required.

REHEARSAL INFORMATION FOR YOUTH PERFORMERS

TOTS rehearsals for the non-paid youth ensemble are a lesser time commitment than the rehearsal period for the professional acting company with paid performers. The rehearsal schedule varies depending on the production and the amount of time needed for the youth ensemble. The Creative Team tries its best to work around school schedules when deciding rehearsal times. The youth ensemble performers are usually not asked to travel and always rehearse in Atlanta.

SCHEDULE/COMPENSATION

Performers are cast on a per-show basis. Theater of the Stars works with Actors' Equity Association under the MSUA contract. All performers (with the exception of the non-paid youth ensemble performers) are signed to an Equity contract and are eligible for full membership. Minimum salary is $902 per week for the 2012 Season.

If, after reading this in its entirety, you have any additional questions, please contact Marguerite Daniel Mancini at marguerite@theaterofthestars.com or 404-252-8960, x236 (e-mail inquiries preferred). Thank you!
