CURTAINS

“We are delighted to announce that we are mounting a Co-Production tour of Curtains, the hit Broadway musical comedy” states Nick Manos, President of Atlanta’s Theater of the Stars (TOTS). This original comedy with Music and Lyrics by Broadway legends John Kander and Fred Ebb (Chicago and Cabaret) and Book by Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood and Say Goodnight, Gracie ) and Peter Stone (My One and Only and The Will Rogers Follies) will go out on a limited engagement Co-Production tour beginning in the fall of 2009.

“We have been huge fans of Curtains from the beginning and believe that the show is a perfect fit for theater audiences around the country,” adds Chris Manos, Producer of TOTS. “We called a few of our sister theaters, and they share our enthusiasm for this new, old-fashioned musical comedy whodunit.”

Curtains unfolds backstage at Boston’s Colonial Theatre in 1959 in a pre-Broadway engagement. The new musical could be a Broadway smash were it not for its talent-free leading lady. When the hapless star dies on opening night during her curtain call, Lieutenant Frank Cioffi arrives on the scene to conduct an investigation. But the lure of the theatre proves irresistible and when an unexpected romance blooms for the stage-struck detective, he finds himself just as drawn toward making the show a hit, as he is in solving the murder.

Curtains opened on Broadway on March 22, 2007 and will close on June 29, 2008 having played over 500 previews and performances. The show was nominated for 8 TONY Awards (including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score) with David Hyde Pierce winning the prize for Best Actor in a Musical.

The Curtains Co-Production tour will travel with a full contingent of Equity actors and IATSE stagehands and will be an affordable mid-priced show for the 2009-2010 subscription season. The Creative Team will be announced at a later time. L. Glenn Poppleton and Ron Gubin of Avid Touring (www.avidtouring.com) will handle bookings for the tour. Curtains is licensed by Theatrical Rights Worldwide (www.theatricalrights.com).

2008 marks TOTS’ 56th Anniversary as one of the nation’s premier regional theater companies and 48th year under the leadership of Chris Manos.
